“The role of Hydrogen in energy transition and mobility 2019” 28/011/2018Michele Grisafi
The “national convention on hydrogen and fuel cells” took place on Wednesday 28 November 2018 at the Politecnico di Milano with the participation of “Sustainable Economy Europe”. Italy is taking the path of energy transition towards a zero-emission system in line with European directives. European countries are committed to achieve the goals of decarbonising the energy system and to face different challenges such as:
Increasing the penetration of renewables in the electricity system, while maintaining high reliability and safety with the adoption of flexible solutions for energy production, distribution and storage;
Drastically reducing emissions by acting on various fronts, particularly in the transport sector, promoting the rapid spread of vehicles with reduced environmental impact.
The use of hydrogen sees a growing diffusion in Europe, USA, Japan and China precisely to face these challenges. Despite the full compatibility of these technologies with the Italian energy system, their diffusion is still limited in our country. So the main questions is: what are the technological, economic, legislative barriers that prevent their rapid development also in Italy?
Sustainable Economy Europe is trying to give an answer to this question by dialoguing with the world of research, industry and institutions, also in light of Italy’s recent accession to the “Hydrogen Initiative” of the European Union.
