“Sustainability in European rail transport. A vision for the Dolomites train?” Palazzo Perler Hof, Mezzocorona, Italy – 10/11/2018Michele Grisafi
The high attention and the numerous questions during the event, showed a strong commitment from the public and from the local politics towards the important issue of sustainable rail mobility. This one is a strategic period of debate, considering the ongoing electoral campaign, that often treats these theme with not enough attention.
Trentino, an autonomous region historically characterized by a strong spirit of innovation, must demonstrate, today more than ever, that is important to keep up with the most virtuous countries of Northern Europe that are already looking at a total de-carbonization of the economy and transports.
An important example is the hydrogen train, recently registered with zero CO2 emissions, which is already being widely used in Germany and which would seem to be an investment that is also compatible with our region. Other positive examples are the “railway sleepers” produced from exhausted recycled tires (circular economy), with excellent soundproofing and anti-vibration performances. We therefore hope that the new Regional Council of Trentino will have a special focus on environmental sustainability and that it will be able to correctly stimulate the research and development sector that will make Trentino a national and European leader in the field of innovative mobility.
